On a very warm Saturday in September we welcomed
Mr. Michael Matson to Green Bay Morgans for a
musical freestyle clinic. The Old Dominion Morgan
Horse Association sponsored the event at Green
Bay. Michael had the music cranked up in the indoor
arena as the participants and auditors arrived. He
truly set the mood for a great day of fellowship and
fun. He began each lesson with a metronome to
determine the horse’s beat per minute at each gait.
Then he selected eight to ten songs for each gait. It
was so interesting to see the horse respond to his or
her favorite selection. The rider weighed in on the
choice as did the auditors. At the end of each 90
minute lesson he presented the rider with a package
that included a list of the songs that seemed to fit the
team best. And he gave peppermints to each horse
which they enjoyed.
Our participants were Temple Joyce and Green Bay
Elegance, Cara Carne and Green Bay Yankee Bob,
Kimberly Lawrence and Crosslane Piper Ashlea,
Beryl Herzog and Green Bay Singleton, and Mary
Ann Massie and Green Bay Questar.
Thanks to ODMHA President Sandy Monolo for
arranging the workshop. And to Beryl and Bob
Herzog for hosting the event.
